Why BEETROOT?

Beetroot.

We wanted to share some of the amazing benefits of the vegetables and fruit we use with you. First off, Beetroot!

Regarded as one of the powerful vegetables around. Renowned for helping to cleanse the liver, blood and one of the most tested and proven vegetables for reducing blood pressure (must be raw beetroot rather than cooked or pickled) (juicetherapy.co.uk)

According to Wikipedia ancient Romans used beetroot as a treatment for fevers. From the Middle Ages, beetroot was used as a treatment for a variety of conditions, especially illnesses relating to digestion and blood.

Beetroot belongs to the same family as chard and spinach – both the leaves and roots can be eaten, the leaves bitter but the round root is sweet. Typically purple, although it can also be white or golden.

Beetroot have gained popularity recently due to their amazing health benefits. Low in calories, fat and cholesterol, they can heal anaemia (due to their high iron levels), liver, skin, kidneys, lymphatic circulation, tiredness, eye, liver, skin problems, detoxification, cancer. Beet juice may also kill fungi, is a strong antioxidant and has anti inflammatory properties. (thebestofrawfood.com)

Betaine, an amino acid in beets inhibits the formation of cancer-causing compounds and is protective against colon and stomach cancer.  (foodfacts.mercola.com)

Beetroot juice can lower blood pressure due to the high level of nitrates they contain. when we consume nitrate, our body converts it to nitrate oxide. this is a powerful vasodilator which means it widens the blood vessels (juicetherapy.co.uk).This is also beneficial for the avoidance of heart disease and stroke.

Beetroot juice gained popularity since the Paralympic gold medalist David Weir announced that his secret to success was a shot of beetroot juice. In fact several sports teams and people swear by it.

Oxygen uptake is greatly increased by people who drink beetroot juice due to the high nitrate content. the results show that oxygen uptake increases by up to 16% which is an unheard of boost, and is actually more than a normal person can improve by, even when training extensively.  This increases stamina for excersising and participating in sports, making beet juice an interesting sports drink that most people would never consider.
